  • Because He Loves Me

    $16.99

Shows that a heartfelt desire to live a godly life flows out of a recognition of how we’ve been loved and transformed through Christ. God’s love has the power to change lives. Christians, then, should exhibit the greatest transformation of all because, rightly understood and cherished, God’s love makes them increasingly more like the One who has lavished his love on them. So why do we so often struggle to exhibit God’s love? Biblical counselor Elyse M. Fitzpatrick asks one simple question: “In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?” We need to be rescued from our “identity amnesia” and pointed to our true identity as God’s beloved children-adopted by the Father, united with the Son, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Fitzpatrick shows how a genuine transformation of identity leads to a transformation of our daily lives. Those who struggle with either legalism or lawlessness will find encouragement to return to God’s love, the source of authentic and lasting change. Study questions and invitations to further discovery conclude each chapter. Now available in paperback.

Starred Review. New York Times columnist Kristof and his wife, WuDunn, a former Times reporter, make a brilliantly argued case for investing in the health and autonomy of women worldwide. More girls have been killed in the last fifty years, precisely because they were girls, than men were killed in all the wars of the twentieth century, they write, detailing the rampant gendercide in the developing world, particularly in India and Pakistan. Far from merely making moral appeals, the authors posit that it is impossible for countries to climb out of poverty if only a fraction of women (9% in Pakistan, for example) participate in the labor force. China’s meteoric rise was due to women’s economic empowerment: 80% of the factory workers in the Guangdong province are female; six of the 10 richest self-made women in the world are Chinese. The authors reveal local women to be the most effective change agents: The best role for Americans… isn’t holding the microphone at the front of the rally but writing the checks, an assertion they contradict in their unnecessary profiles of American volunteers finding compensations for the lack of shopping malls and Netflix movies in making a difference abroad. • Becoming A Woman Of Prayer (Revised)

    $11.99

PRAYER IS OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S INVITATION.
So often we think of prayer as something we do to break through to God-to get His attention and to get Him to listen to us. But intimacy with God is His idea. He has taken the initiative and prayer is His gift to us. It is an opportunity for us to respond to His invitation to intimacy by calling, crying, and singing to Him. Prayer is our response to the One who has called out to us and desires to be in a relationship with us.

In Becoming a Woman of Prayer, Cynthia Heald will lead you through an examination of what the Bible teaches about prayer. In addition to a thought-provoking Bible study, each lesson features classic quotes from some of the great devotional writers throughout history, a reflection from Cynthia, and a suggested memory verse.

Becoming a Woman of Prayer will encourage you to respond to God’s invitation to deeper intimacy with Him.–This text refers to the Paperback edition.

We are called to be women. The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian does make me a different kind of woman. For I have accepted God’s idea of me, and my whole life is an offering back to Him of all that I am and all that He wants me to be.

Elisabeth Elliot is one of Christendom’s most able and articulate writers. In this new book, Let Me Be a Woman, she couples her own observations and experiences of life with her careful, lifelong study of the Scripture. The book is subtitled “Thoughts on Womanhood for Valerie,” and is the gift of this talented mother to a daughter on the threshold of her own marriage.

    Who are you?

Many Christian women rarely, if ever, ask themselves that question. But knowing who you are as woman-and as a Christian-can make a real difference in how you see yourself and others.

Elisabeth Elliot can help you find answers that make a difference. She suggests that the place to start is by asking not “Who am I?” but “Whose am I?” In Let Me Be a Woman, she writes candidly about what it means to be a Christian woman, and she unabashedly tackles tough issues, including subordination, the single life, self-discipline, masculinity vs. femininity, the right hand of pride, and what makes a marriage work.

Whether you are young or not so young, single, engaged, married, or widowed, you will better understand how you fit into God’s plan, and you will come away with a wonderful sense of peace about who you really are as a Christian woman.
