Persian Problem
$17.98
The methods of modern scholarship have undermined biblical historicity and the original intent of biblical writers. The Persian Problem highlights one of these key controversial areas.
A dilemma confronts all who would identify the Persian kings in Scripture and then synchronize them chronologically. This aspect of the “Persian Problem” has three parts.
First, the identity of the “Artaxerxes” mentioned in Ezra 6-7 and in Nehemiah. Persian history gives us little help because the Greeks and Muslims destroyed nearly all their records. In attempting to identify this king, scholars have forced the ages of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Mordecai to be much older. They “solved” this issue by subsequently “inventing” a second Ezra, Nehemiah, and Mordecai. However, this created a greater difficulty!
Most historians agree that Xerxes ascended the throne in 486 BC and that his son Artaxerxes I, or Longimanus, succeeded him, dying in 424 BC. However, with regard to biblical usage, the first year Longimanus was associated on the throne has not been correctly fixed! This shocking fact is the second part. Indeed, this date is a major key to Bible chronology!
Finally, there has been a failure to carefully compare the list of 31 priests and Levites returning with Zerubbabel (536 BC: Cyrus’ 1st year) in Nehemiah 12:1-9 with the 10:1-10 list. This oversight leads to a 91-year gap between the two rolls, creating a far greater age problem involving many more people than the Ezra, Nehemiah, and Mordecai issue! Moreover, the entire “Persian Problem” is convoluted. As the kings from Darius the Mede to Artaxerxes I are examined, an overview of neo-Babylonian history becomes necessary-and new problems surface.
While honoring all relevant Scripture, the work contained herein resolves all the above issues.

Authentic Faith : What If Life Isnt Meant To Be Perfect But We Are Meant To
$16.99Add to cart“This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”–John the Apostle Isn’t it startling how God reveals himself most profoundly in places we least expect to encounter him? He is intent on showing himself Lord in all our circumstances–in the highs and the lows alike. The faith he calls us to is far more than a glowing positivism that shields us from life’s struggles. It is one that guides us into a deepening intimacy with the God who sustains us in the broad sweep of life. Best-selling author Gary Thomas helps us sharpen our spiritual vision and fortify our commitment by examining ten disciplines God uses to forge a fire-tested faith. A biblical view of these disciplines can safeguard us from disillusionment when-not if-difficulties surface in our lives. How we respond will determine the depth and vitality of our walk with God. Sharing scriptural insights, the wisdom of Christians through the centuries, and cogent personal observations, Thomas explores the disciplines of: * Selflessness * Waiting * Suffering * Persecution * Social Mercy * Forgiveness * Mourning * Contentment * Sacrifice * Hope and Fear Drawing liberally from his storehouse of colorful and engaging stories, Thomas brings his topics to life. Find out how a message scrawled on a baseball made a big-league difference to a discouraged young pitcher. Learn how a nineteen-year-old Catholic acolyte, marked by the tragedies of war, grew up to usher in the collapse of Communism in Poland. Read the touching account of feud, reconciliation, and friendship between two of America’s founding fathers. As Gary Thomas reminds us, Jesus said that in this world we will have trouble. Paul exhorted believers to mourn with those who mourn. James wrote that God chooses the poor of this world to be rich in faith. Clearly, faith is about something other than a smooth ride through this fallen world. Rather, authentic faith is shaped, tempered, and purified in the flames of struggle. In a culture sated with blessings and comfort, Authentic Faith reveals the rich benefits that derive from embracing the harder truths of Scripture. This eye-opening look at what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus will encourage you, bolster your faith, and help you rise above shallow attachments to fix your heart on things of eternal worth.

Fresh Wind Fresh Fire (Expanded)
$18.99Add to cartThe times are urgent. God is on the move.
Pastor Jim Cymbala believes that Jesus wants to renew his people-to call us back from spiritual dead ends, apathy, and lukewarm religion. Cymbala knows the difference firsthand. Back in the early 1970s, his own church, the Brooklyn Tabernacle, was a struggling congregation of twenty. Then they began to pray, God began to move, and street-hardened lives by the hundreds were changed with the love of Christ. Today, they are nearly ten thousand strong.
This well-loved book shares the story of what happened to this broken-down church in one of America’s toughest neighborhoods points the way to new spiritual vitality in the church and in your own life. Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire shows what the Holy Spirit can do when believers get serious about prayer and the gospel. As this compelling book reveals, God moves in life-changing ways when we set aside our own agendas, take him at his word, and listen for his voice.
In this new edition, Cymbala will update some of the classic stories, including that of his own daughter Chrissy Cymbala Toledo. He will talk about how the church has grown and how God helped the church move from its location on Flatbush Avenue to a larger facility that the growing church couldn’t “afford.” And it is so appropriate that the church meets in a building that was once a theater, as God is dramatically reshaping the life stories of so many people who encounter Christ and the power of the gospel. This message of hope and transformation continues.

Live No Lies
$25.00Add to cartThe bestselling author of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry equips readers to recognize and resist the lies that seek to rob them of peace and freedom.
We are at war. Not with a foreign government or domestic terrorists or a creepy new artificial intelligence hell-bent on taking over the world. No, it’s a war we feel deep inside our own chests: we are at war with lies.
The problem isn’t so much that we tell lies but that we live them. We let them into our bodies, and they sabotage our peace. All around us in the culture and deep within our own body memories are lies: deceptive ideas that wreak havoc on our emotional health and spiritual well-being, and deceptive ideas about who God is, who we are, and what the good life truly is.
The choice is not whether to fight or not fight, but whether we win or surrender.
Ancient apprentices of Jesus developed a paradigm for this war; they spoke of the three enemies of the soul: the devil, the flesh, and the world. Live No Lies taps into this ancient wisdom from saints of the Way and translates the three enemies for the modern era, with all its secularism and sophistication. As a generation, we chuckle at the devil as a premodern myth, we are confused by Scripture’s teaching on the flesh in an age where sensual indulgence is a virtue not a vice, and we have little to no category for the New Testament concept of the world.
In this provocative and practical book, bestselling author John Mark Comer combines cultural analysis with spiritual formation. He identifies the role lies play in our spiritual deformation and lays out a strategic plan to overcome them.
Do you feel the tug-of-war in your own heart, the inner conflict between truth and lies? The spirit and the flesh? The Way of Jesus and the world? It’s time to start winning. It’s time to live no lies…
